Volunteer Opportunity

Client Choice Food Pantry

Sign In/Greeter: Greet and acknowledge all clients in a friendly manner. Ensure the client signs in and provide client with a number card. Explain the shopping process to the client.

Shopping Assistant: The shopping assistant works directly with the client while they shop. This person will engage the client in conversation while making sure they take the correct amount specified for each product category by family size.

Bagger: The bagger will bag and weigh all the clients’ groceries after they are finished shopping.

Carrying assistant/runner: The carrying assistant or runner will make sure the clients get everything to their vehicle quickly and efficiently and help load the items into their vehicles.

Boutique Assistant: The Boutique assistant will assist the client in finding their size and ensure the client is taking the correct number of items per family member.

Floater: The Floater will be responsible for helping where needed.

Warehouse Volunteer

As a Warehouse Volunteer, you may unload trucks, break down boxes, and provide other general assistance in the warehouse as needed.
Warehouse Volunteer Job Description
  • Assist in the unpacking of food coming into the warehouse
  • Unload donated items from vehicles upon arrival
  • Sort salvaged food and non-food items donations
  • Break down boxes for recycling
  • Assist in keeping warehouse clean and sanitized

Food Recovery Volunteer

As a Food Recovery Volunteer, you may sort canned and boxed items and perishable products for distribution and other light duties as needed and assigned.

Food Recovery Volunteer Job Description
  • Sort salvaged food and non-food donations
  • Assist with required quality inspections of salvaged food to ensure quality
  • Sort and repackage fresh produce
  • Clean donated product as needed for redistribution
  • Ensure sorting area is clean and tidy at the end of the shift

Community Kitchen Volunteer

The Community Kitchen preps and cooks’ meals for thousands of neighbors in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Suffolk. We offer breakfast and lunch daily to include weekends.
